Srinagar, Jun 7: After offering Eid prayers at Dargah Hazratbal in Srinagar, former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and PDP leader Iltija Mufti strongly criticised the government for barring Eid prayers at Jama Masjid and placing Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest.
“We prayed for the well-being of the people of Palestine. We pray that Palestine is soon free from the atrocities being committed by Israel,” Mehbooba told reporters, as per news agency JKNS.
“Unfortunately, the government, on this pious day, has denied permission to offer namaz in the Jama Masjid and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been put under house arrest. I protest against the state government also, who is just watching everything and doing nothing.”
PDP leader Iltija Mufti also voiced her anger over the restrictions. “The gates of Jama Masjid have been locked again. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been put under house arrest again. I want to ask the NC government and the LG, that when you claim everything is normal, why is Mirwaiz still being placed under house arrest?” she asked.
“As India’s only and the largest Muslim-majority state, we Kashmiris have the right to worship. More than infrastructure, we need dignity and security of life,” Iltija added. (JkNS)
