PDP slams government over exorbitant and unjustified hike in power tariffs

PDP leader Mohd Rafique Rather in a strongly-worded statement, slammed the NC-led government for proposing an exorbitant and unjustified 20% surcharge on electricity during peak hours. The proposal, submitted by the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Ltd (KPDCL) to the government, has triggered deep concern among the public.

Rafique Rather said the move exposes the government’s complete insensitivity towards the economic hardships of the people. “Since you have failed in fulfilling the poll promises you made, instead of mitigating the sufferings of people, you are now adding to their miseries. At a time when households are battling financial distress and harsh winter conditions, punishing consumers during peak hours is cruel and unacceptable,” Rather said.

He added that the same leadership which loudly promised 200 free units during the campaign is now burdening people with inflated tariffs. “This brazen U-turn reflects political dishonesty and a shocking disconnect from ground realities,” he stated.

Rafique Rather urged the government to immediately withdraw the anti-people proposal, saying the people of J&K deserve relief, not further exploitation at a time of severe hardship.
