Growing Demand for Smart Meter Installation in Bijbehara: Bashir Veeri

Srinagar, Nov 24: MLA Bijbehara Bashir Ahmad Shah (Veeri) on Monday said that areas where smart meters have been installed are receiving improved power supply along with reduced electricity bills, prompting residents in several localities to demand faster installation of the devices.

Speaking to reporters, Veeri, according to news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) said people from different neighbourhoods have been approaching him in deputations, urging authorities to install smart meters in their areas as well. “Wherever smart meters have been installed, people are getting regular power supply, and their fees have come down,” he said.

He added that many areas under his constituency particularly Gund Chehal and Arwani have seen growing public demand for smart metering. “Unfortunately, the PDD department has not been able to install meters despite the high demand,” he said, terming the situation “regrettable.”

According to the MLA, residents believe that smart meters help reduce electricity wastage and ensure fair billing, which is why more households are now seeking installation. (KDC)
