
Days after the semi-nude photoshoot at Gulmarg in Kashmir, a court in Srinagar has issued summons against the Directors of the Photo-shoot and the Editor in Chief of Elle India Magazine.
A copy of the order, of which a copy lies with The Kashmiriyat, the court has also issued notices against the Models who participated in the show that evoked massive controversy in Jammu Kashmir Assembly along with other virtual and physical spaces.
The order issued by Ist Class judicial magistrate Faizan I. Nazir reads, “Perusal of the complaint reveals that the complainant seeks an action against three proposed accused for offences under Sections 296 and 299 of BNS and Section 50-A of the Jammu and Kashmir Excise Act, 1958 for organizing fashion show in which obscene and inappropriate contents was displayed.”
The court further noted, “Now before this court applies its mind for taking cognizance it is mandatory upon this Court to hear the accused in terms of proviso to Sub Section (1) of Section 223 BNSS, 2023. Accordingly, put accused on notice for appearance through registered post with acknowledgement due that the matter will be considered for taking cognizance on 8th April 2025 and they will be heard before such consideration and accused be informed that if they failed to appear matter will be considered in their absence.”(Agencies)
