Jammu, Feb 23: The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on Monday reserved its order on a petition challenging the detention of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Malik, who serves as president of the AAP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit, was detained on September 8 last year for allegedly disturbing public order and was subsequently lodged in Kathua jail. On September 24, he filed a habeas corpus petition before the High Court, contesting his detention and seeking ₹5 crore in compensation.
The matter was heard by Justice Mohammad Yousuf Wani, who reserved the case for pronouncement of orders. Advocate Appu Singh Slathia, also an AAP spokesperson, said the court has granted both sides one week to file written submissions or any additional documents, if required.
Slathia described the proceedings as a long and challenging legal battle, expressing hope and confidence in the judicial process, and appealed to Malik’s supporters to remain calm and positive.
