VP Radhakrishnan Arrives in J&K on Two-Day Visit

Srinagar, Feb 25: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday evening on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. A business Boeing jet carrying the Vice President landed at Srinagar Airport, where he was accorded a warm reception.

He was received by Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor , Chief Minister , Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps of the Army, and the Director General of Police.

Following his arrival, the Vice President travelled in a secured cavalcade to the Raj Bhawan in the Chashma Shahi area of Srinagar, where he will stay during his visit. This marks his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after assuming office.

The Vice President is scheduled to attend the 21st convocation ceremony of the as the chief guest at its Hazratbal campus on Thursday. The Lt Governor serves as the Chancellor of the University, while the Chief Minister is its Pro-Chancellor.

Tight Security Arrangements

Security was heightened ahead of the Vice President’s arrival, with security forces conducting route sanitisation and dry runs along designated routes in Srinagar. Makeshift checkpoints were established at various locations, and vehicle checking and frisking of commuters entering the city were intensified to ensure smooth and secure movement during the VVIP visit.

Traffic Advisory Issued

The Traffic Department issued a detailed advisory urging commuters to follow alternative routes to facilitate the smooth passage of the Vice President’s convoy.

According to officials, motorists will not be allowed to travel towards Nishat, Shalimar, Harwan, and adjoining areas via Badyari Chowk and Gupkar on Thursday. Traffic from Ram Munshibagh towards Hotel Grand Palace will remain suspended, with vehicles diverted via Dalgate, Sangermal, and Ikhwan Chowk.

Traffic restrictions will also remain in place along the Dalgate, Khayam, Khanyar, Rainawari, Saidkadal, and Hazratbal road stretches during specified hours.

Motorists travelling from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat, Ganderbal, and nearby areas towards Lal Chowk have been advised to use the Burzahama route via Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakoora, Malbagh, Illahibagh, and 90 Feet Road, and vice versa.

Similarly, commuters from Dalgate and Lal Chowk heading towards Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat should use the Sangermal, Ikhwan Chowk, Nowhatta, 90 Feet Road, and Malbagh route.

Vehicles travelling towards Srinagar Airport from Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat will be permitted via Burzahama, Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakoora, Malbagh, Illahibagh, and 90 Feet Road.

Meanwhile, vehicles moving from Panthachowk and Pandrethan towards Ram Munshibagh will be allowed via Peaks Motors Nowgam and the Bypass.

Officials stated that medical emergency cases will be facilitated after due verification. Citizens requiring assistance have been advised to contact the Traffic Police.
