Anantnag, Feb 26: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his recent visit to Israel and objected to his public engagement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid the ongoing Gaza conflict.
Speaking to reporters in Anantnag, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said that as the head of government of over 1.4 billion people, the Prime Minister should be mindful of the message such engagements convey at a time when the situation in Gaza has drawn widespread international attention.
Mufti alleged that Netanyahu should be held accountable for civilian deaths in the ongoing conflict and described him as an “international criminal.” She further claimed that in certain countries, he could face legal action over allegations linked to the Gaza war.
“The Prime Minister should not be seen embracing such leaders,” she said, adding that India has historically maintained a moral position in global affairs.
Mufti urged the Centre to review its diplomatic approach and ensure that India’s foreign policy reflects its stated commitment to peace and justice.(KNS)
