Hubuli:Jammu and Kashmir scripted history by clinching their maiden Ranji Trophy title after the final against ended in a draw on Saturday. J&K were declared champions on the basis of their massive first-innings lead.
Resuming Day 5 at 186/4 in their second innings, J&K tightened their grip with a commanding batting display. , unbeaten on 94 overnight, and , who had started the day on 16, both completed superb centuries. Iqbal remained unbeaten on 160, while Lotra scored 101 as J&K reached 342/4 in 113 overs, extending their overall lead to a staggering 633 runs before the captains agreed to shake hands.
Earlier, Karnataka were bowled out for 293 in response to J&K’s imposing first-innings total of 584. Fast bowler starred with the ball, claiming an impressive five-wicket haul (5/54) to put his side firmly in control.
J&K chose not to enforce the follow-on and instead batted Karnataka out of the contest, ensuring there was no chance of a comeback.
This victory marks Jammu and Kashmir’s first-ever Ranji Trophy triumph in 67 years of participation, a landmark achievement in the region’s cricketing journey.
