Srinagar, April 1: Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has clarified that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the Union Territory is a routine engagement and was scheduled in advance.
He emphasized that previous Home Ministers have also visited J&K regularly for governance and security reviews. Shah’s visit includes attending a public rally in Jammu, holding security discussions, reviewing development projects in Srinagar, and inaugurating several new initiatives, he said according to KNS correspondent.
Abdullah made these remarks after inaugurating free SRTC and Smart City buses for women in Srinagar.
He highlighted that the Home Minister’s visit is not solely about security but also focuses on development and public welfare initiatives in the region
During his media interaction, Abdullah also addressed concerns related to the transportation sector in Srinagar, particularly the status of State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses.Click Here To He acknowledged that while SRTC buses have been restricted in parts of Srinagar due to the implementation of Smart City initiatives, the government will compensate SRTC for free tickets in Budget.
“Whether it is for education, shopping, or sightseeing, we ensure safe and free ride for the women of Jammu & Kashmir,” he stated.
Speaking on an upcoming bill in Parliament, Abdullah expressed concerns about its potential implications on religious charities of muslims.
He clarified that charity organizations of a particular religion should not be viewed with suspicion.
“The bill should not target any one religion. We can’t support this Bill. Our MPs will speak against it in parliament,” Abdullah stressed, adding that charitable institutions like Waqaf play a crucial role in supporting communities and should be treated with respect and transparency. (KNS)
