Body of Youth Recovered from Dal Lake After Boat Capsized

Srinagar, May 3: The body of a 24-year-old youth who had gone missing after a boat capsized in Dal Lake near Duck Park on Friday was recovered by rescuers on Saturday morning.

Reports reaching news agency JKNS said that the deceased, identified as Taufeeq Ahmad Chopan of Chopan Mohalla, Rainawari, was found after the search operation resumed at first light. The rescue efforts had been suspended overnight due to low visibility.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when a fishing boat overturned during strong winds, throwing two fishermen into the lake. One of them, Abdul Majeed Khosa, was rescued soon after, but Chopan could not be traced despite hours of search.

Teams from SDRF, assisted by other local agencies, retrieved the body after a coordinated operation early this morning. The incident has sent a wave of grief through the Rainawari locality, where both men belonged. (JKNS)
