Srinagar Jammu Highway Reopens For Traffic

Kashmir Highway Reopens For Traffic

Srinagar- The 270-kilometre long  Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been opened for passenger vehicles, allowing light motor vehicles (LMVs) to travel in both directions, officials said on Saturday.

The arterial road, connecting the Valley and the rest of the country, was closed on Friday following heavy snowfall and multiple landslides in the Ramban district.

An official said the road has been opened now and commuters have been advised to maintain lane discipline to prevent congestion.

Authorities have also urged passengers to travel during daylight hours and avoid unnecessary stops between Ramban and Banihal due to risk of landslides and shooting stones.

Meanwhile, the movement of heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) will be permitted later after an assessment of road conditions.(KNO)
