Encounter breaks out in Kathua, Area cordoned off as intermittent firing continues

Jammu, Jan 7: An encounter broke out between militants and the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Kamadh Nullah area of Kathua district on Wednesday, officials said.

A senior police officer said security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area following specific inputs about the presence of militants. During the operation, the militants opened fire on the search party, triggering an exchange of gunfire.

“The area has been put under a tight cordon. Intermittent firing is going on,” the officer said.

Officials said additional reinforcements have been rushed to the spot to strengthen the operation and prevent any escape routes. Security forces have also intensified surveillance in the surrounding forested area.

No casualties have been reported so far. Further details are awaited as the operation is underway. (CNS)
