Baramulla–Uri NH to remain closed on Jan 11 over landslide risk

Baramulla, Jan 9 : The Office of the District Magistrate Baramulla has ordered the temporary closure of the Baramulla–Uri National Highway on January 11, 2026, in view of minor landslides and ongoing road clearance and hill cutting works.

According to the official traffic advisory, the highway will remain closed for vehicular movement from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday. The decision has been taken in the interest of public safety following reports of recent minor landslides along the stretch.

The order states that hill cutting work is scheduled to be carried out at Danakha Mode at design chainage 65+600 and near NS Bridge, Uri at design chainage 102+800. Authorities apprehended further landslides due to the nature of the work, necessitating the temporary suspension of traffic at the identified locations.

The administration noted that incidents of minor landslides in the recent past have already posed risks to commuters, making it essential to impose temporary restrictions on the movement of vehicles during the execution of the work. The closure has been ordered to avert any loss of life or property.

Commuters have been advised to plan their travel accordingly and strictly follow official advisories. The traffic police have been directed to deploy personnel at the affected sites to manage diversions through alternate routes and ensure installation of proper barricades.

The District Information Officer, Baramulla, has been asked to give wide publicity to the order through print, electronic, and social media for the convenience of the general public. [KNT]
