CM Omar Seeks Strict Action After Assault on Kashmiri Shawl Seller in Uttarakhand

Srinagar, Jan 29: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding the assault on a Kashmiri shawl seller in Uttarakhand and sought strict action against those responsible.

Expressing serious concern over the incident, Omar Abdullah said such attacks were unacceptable and must be stopped immediately. In a post on social media, the Chief Minister noted that the recent series of assaults, including one in Himachal Pradesh and now in Uttarakhand, reflect a worrying trend.

“It cannot be claimed that Jammu and Kashmir is an inalienable part of India while people from Kashmir, in other parts of the country, live in fear for their lives,” Omar Abdullah wrote. He asserted that his government would intervene wherever necessary and take all required steps to ensure such incidents are not repeated.

The Chief Minister also expressed hope that the Union Home Ministry would take cognisance of the matter and sensitise other states to prevent attacks on people from Jammu and Kashmir and ensure their safety across the country.
