Srinagar, Feb 11: At least six residential houses were damaged in a late-night fire that broke out in the densely populated Habbakadal area of Srinagar on Tuesday night. Three persons, including a firefighter, sustained injuries in the incident, officials said on Wednesday.
According to officials, the Fire and Emergency Services control room received a distress call at 10:32 pm. Fire tenders from Habbakadal, Babdem, and Gowkadal fire stations were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Officials stated that the narrow lanes and congested construction in the locality initially hampered firefighting operations, prompting authorities to call in additional units from other stations across the city.
During the operation, explosions from two to three LPG cylinders intensified the blaze. The fire largely gutted the attic portions of the affected houses.
A firefighter suffered a hand injury, while two civilians sustained minor injuries. All three were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and were later discharged.
Deputy Director of Fire and Emergency Services, Dr. Mir Aqib Hussain, who supervised the operation on the ground, said the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and an investigation is underway.
“Senior officers coordinated the mobilisation of resources. The exact number of houses affected is being verified, but at least six have suffered significant damage,” he said.
