India Issues Fresh Advisory, Urges Nationals to Leave Iran Amid Escalating Tensions

New Delhi, Feb 23: The Government of India has issued a fresh advisory asking all Indian nationals currently in Iran to leave the country at the earliest using any available means of transport, including commercial flights.

In a statement released on February 23, the advised students, pilgrims, businesspersons and tourists to depart Iran in view of the “evolving situation” in the region. The advisory follows an earlier notice issued on January 5, 2026.

“All Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) should exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, stay in contact with the Embassy and monitor local media for developments,” the statement said.

The government has instructed nationals to keep their passports and essential travel documents ready at all times. Those who have not yet registered with the Embassy have been asked to do so through the official portal. In case of internet disruptions within Iran, families in India may complete the registration process on their behalf.

Emergency helpline numbers have also been released for immediate assistance.

The advisory comes amid rising unrest in parts of Iran and growing tensions between Tehran and Washington over nuclear negotiations. Fresh talks are expected to take place in Geneva later this week. Recent remarks by US President warning of serious consequences if a deal is not reached have further heightened uncertainty in the region.
