Students Should Leave Iran If Advisory Issued, Says Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar, Feb 24: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said that students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in Iran should return home if any official advisory has been issued, citing rising tensions between Iran and the United States.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah said that if the situation escalates and airspace is closed, families would face distress. He said it would be prudent for students to leave the country in time rather than wait for conditions to worsen. “If there is an advisory, they should come back before airspace gets shut and then parents raise hue and cry,” he remarked, adding that it would be better for them to return as a precautionary measure.

Commenting on the role of the media, the former Chief Minister alleged that media outlets have lost credibility in recent times. He said a large section of the media operates under tremendous pressure from the government and claimed that people no longer trust them. He further alleged that the foundation of many media narratives is based on falsehood.

On a lighter note, Abdullah expressed hope for the success of the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team in the Ranji Trophy final against Karnataka cricket team. He said he prays for the team’s victory and extended his best wishes to the players ahead of the crucial match. [KNT]
