Militant Killed in Ongoing Operation in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal

Ganderbal, April 1: One militant has been killed in an ongoing anti-militancy operation in the Arahama area of Ganderbal district, the Army said on Wednesday.

The encounter is still in progress, with security forces continuing search operations in the area, officials said.

Officials said a joint team of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in Arahama after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of militants in the area.

As the forces zeroed in on the suspected location, militants opened fire, triggering an encounter, officials said, adding that the forces retaliated.

During the exchange of fire, one militant was killed. His identity was yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report.

A senior Army official said the operation was “ongoing” and that additional reinforcements had been rushed to the area to prevent any escape.

Further details regarding the number of militants trapped, if any, were not immediately available.

Security has been tightened in and around the encounter site, with movement restrictions imposed as a precautionary measure, officials said.

The area remains under cordon, and searches are being conducted to ensure no militants escape, police said. KNT]
