Srinager 30 April : Police in Srinagar have registered an FIR against Iltija Mufti and others for allegedly circulating separatist and secessionist content on social media platforms, officials said on Wednesday.
According to Source, the Srinagar Police initiated action after receiving credible inputs regarding the dissemination of videos and other material promoting separatist ideology and allegedly spreading misinformation online.
A preliminary enquiry, police said, indicated that the circulation of such content was a deliberate attempt to propagate secessionist narratives through digital platforms, which could potentially incite public disaffection and disturb public order.
“The content had the potential to undermine the sovereignty and integrity of the country,” an official said.
Police have registered FIR No. 11/2026 at Cyber Police Station Srinagar under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 152, 196(1) and 353(1)(b), (c) and (2), and investigation has been taken up.
Sources said that the case was registered after a video shared on X by Iltija Mufti featuring Syed Ali Shah Geelani came to the notice of authorities. The FIR also names some unidentified persons for allegedly sharing and amplifying the content.
Meanwhile, police have advised the general public to refrain from creating or circulating unlawful content on social media platforms, warning that strict legal action will be taken against violators.(CNS)
