Engineer Rashid Meets Ailing Father in Srinagar Hospital After Interim Bail

Srinagar, April 30: Jailed Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, arrived in Srinagar on Thursday to meet his ailing father after being granted interim bail by the Delhi High Court.

Rashid, who represents Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir, landed at Srinagar airport in the afternoon and proceeded directly to SMHS Hospital, where his father is currently undergoing treatment.

Earlier this week, a bench of Justices Prathiba M Singh and Madhu Jain granted Rashid one week of interim bail to allow him to visit his father. The court specified that during this period, he may either stay at home or visit the hospital.

The court also imposed strict conditions, directing that at least two plainclothes police officers must accompany him at all times. It further stated that only immediate family members would be allowed to meet him, and there should be no unnecessary visitors during his stay.

The interim bail was granted while hearing Rashid’s appeal against a trial court order dated April 24, which had denied him relief.
Engineer Rashid has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019 after being arrested by the National Investigation Agency in connection with a 2017 terror-funding case.

He is currently facing trial under multiple charges, including criminal conspiracy, sedition, and offences related to terrorist activities under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
