SRINAGAR: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday accused the National Conference (NC) of involving the Holy Quran in political rivalry and remaining silent on key issues concerning Muslims in the region.
Mehbooba Mufti said, “The National Conference has fallen to this level. They have even involved the Holy Quran in politics. They do not understand the greatness of the Holy Quran.”
“If they want to fight us politically, they are not familiar with the first message of the Holy Quran. If they were, they would have spoken when the Waqf Bill was passed. They would have raised their voice when Siraj-ul-Uloom School was closed,” she said.
The PDP president also accused the NC of maintaining silence over surveillance of mosque committees, maulvis and imams, as well as the alleged “erosion” of the Urdu language. She further claimed that appointments were being made in government departments without advertisements.
“The jobs being outsourced to banks — you are not even aware, there is no advertisement. That too in thousands. So if they want to divert attention from their failures, then for God’s sake, do not involve the Holy Quran in this,” Mehbooba said.
She also criticised the NC over the demolition of houses in action against drug peddlers and militant sympathisers, as well as the dismissal of government employees.
“Today, people’s houses are being demolished in the name of drug peddlers. Earlier, the houses of militant sympathisers were demolished. Employees are being dismissed from government jobs.
They are watching all this as a spectacle. To hide their failures, they should fight us and blame us, but for God’s sake, do not involve the Holy Quran in this,” she added. (KNS)
