Hailstorm Wreaks Havoc Across Kandi Areas, Rafique Rather Expresses Concern

Senior leader of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party and District President Baramulla, Mohd Rafique Rather, has expressed deep concern over the massive devastation caused by the severe hailstorm that hit several Kandi areas of Baramulla and parts of Tangmarg Sub Division, resulting in extensive damage to apple orchards, vegetables and standing crops.

The hailstorm badly affected various villages leaving farmers and orchardists in a state of shock and uncertainty.

In his statement, Rafique Rather said that the farming and horticulture sectors are already facing immense challenges and such natural calamities further push the growers towards severe economic distress. He said the losses suffered by orchardists and farmers during this crucial season are enormous and demand immediate intervention from the administration.

Rafique Rather urged the District Administration Baramulla to immediately depute teams on the ground for a comprehensive assessment of the damages. He also demanded that the Chief Agriculture Officer and Chief Horticulture Officer personally visit the affected areas and submit a detailed report so that adequate compensation and relief can be provided without delay.He further appealed to the government to announce a special relief package for the affected families and ensure that the farmers are not left alone in this difficult time.

Rather stressed that timely assistance is necessary to safeguard the livelihood of thousands of families dependent on agriculture and horticulture.

Rafique Rather also appealed to the administration to adopt a humanitarian approach while dealing with the affected population and ensure speedy redressal of their grievances.
