Srinagar, May 19: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to stop the alleged “witch hunt” against people who expressed emotions during the funeral of former Jama’at-e-Islami chief Shaikh Ghulam Hassan.
Speaking to reporters in Kulgam, Mehbooba Mufti said, “People spoke out of emotion and grief at the funeral of Shaikh Ghulam Hassan, who was not only the head of Jama’at but also a respected Islamic scholar. We may not agree with what they said, but it was not anti-national.”
The former chief minister visited Hassan’s family in Tarigam, Kulgam, to offer condolences.
Calling the registration of FIRs against mourners unfortunate, Mufti said that people were being targeted merely for expressing grief and emotions.
In a post on X, she appealed to Omar Abdullah and Manoj Sinha to put an end to what she described as a “witch hunt.”
