Srinagar: CM Omar Abdullah on Tuesday visited the bereaved family of the minor girl in Galwanpora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district and expressed deep condolences over the tragic incident that has shocked the entire region.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by party workers, met the grieving family and assured them that the accused would face strict action in accordance with the law. He said the brutal crime had shaken the conscience of society and stressed that such incidents have no place in a civilised society.
Omar Abdullah assured the family that justice would be delivered without delay and that no culprit involved in the case would be spared.
The visit comes in the wake of the killing of a 12-year-old girl in Galwanpora village of Budgam. The girl had reportedly gone missing on May 23, 2026, and her body was recovered the following morning nearly 200 metres from her home, triggering widespread outrage and grief across Kashmir.
Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. Authorities have arrested a local suspect, identified as Mudasir Ahmad Mir, who reportedly confessed to the crime during questioning, officials said.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined.
