US Strikes Iranian Military Sites After Drone Downing; Kuwait Reports Interceptions

June 1: The United States carried out airstrikes on Iranian radar, air defence, and drone control facilities after Tehran allegedly shot down a US MQ-1 Predator drone over international waters, according to the US military.

The strikes were conducted over the weekend near Geruk and on Qeshm Island, targeting Iranian military infrastructure deemed a threat to regional maritime security. US Central Command described the operation as a “measured and deliberate response” to Iran’s actions.

Iran confirmed launching a retaliatory attack following the strikes. Meanwhile, Kuwait said its air defence systems intercepted incoming drones and missiles early Monday. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed US forces had targeted a telecommunications tower on an island and said it responded with an attack, without specifying the location.

The latest exchange underscores the fragility of a ceasefire that has been repeatedly tested despite ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran. Tensions remain high across the region, with Iran continuing restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz and conflicts involving Israel and Hezbollah adding to instability.

The US military said no American personnel were injured during the operation.
