17 schools in Bla’s Pattan functioning in rented spaces: Govt

‘Land unavailability delays construction’

Srinagar, Mar 10 : The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday revealed that 17 schools in Pattan Constituency in Baramulla district are currently functioning in rented accommodations due to the non-availability of their own buildings.

In a response to a query posed by MLA Pattan, Javid Riyaz, the Minister Incharge School Education, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the lack of land has been a primary reason for the delay in constructing school buildings in the area.

“Out of 142 schools, only 17 schools, including 11 Primary Schools and 06 Middle Schools, are not having their own buildings,” the reply added.

The government, however, said that it has sanctioned construction of two school buildings under the Samagra Shiksha scheme for the fiscal year 2024-25.

The sanctioned schools include: Boys Middle School (BMS) Goli Pura – Construction approved at a cost of Rs 45.77 lakh and Girls Middle School (GMS) Sherabad – Construction approved at a cost of Rs 45.00 lakh.

The government further informed that the new buildings for the remaining schools will be proposed under Samagra Shiksha and UT CAPEX Budget, subject to the availability of land—(KNO)
