Ahead Of Eid, Authorities Ban Use Of Firecrackers In Sopore

Srinagar, March 30: Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, authorities in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have ordered ban on sale and use of firecrackers, considering “growing concern over environmental pollution, public safety and health hazards”.

According to an order by Additional District Magistrate, any person found violating the directive within the sub-district Sopore shall be liable for action under law.

“In consideration of growing concern over environmental pollution, public safety and health hazards caused by use of firecrackers and in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 163 BNSS 2023, it is hereby ordered… (that) the sale, purchase and use of all types of Firecrackers or any similar items is prohibited within the territorial limits of Sub-District Sopore” the order, a copy of which lies with GNS reads, adding, “Any person found violating these directions by selling, purchasing or using Firecrackers, shall be liable to the fine/confiscation of Firecrackers, as deemed appropriate under relevant law.”

Further, no loudspeaker shall be used by the vendors etc for the sale of goods, especially near religious Institutions, Hospitals, Government offices and at the congested markets of the town, the order reads. “The order shall be enforced by all Tehsildars along with their Police counterparts, who shall make regular inspections and awareness campaigns to ensure compliance.” The order shall remain in force for two months from its issuance or until further orders whichever is earlier, it added.
