Woman dies after being sexually assaulted in Srinagar, Accused arrested

Srinagar: A woman died after reportedly being assaulted near Water Works Road in Srinagar’s Nishat area late Saturday evening.

Police, as per local news agency, Kashmir News Trust, said they have taken cognisance of the incident and arrested one of the two accused.
According to initial reports, the woman—identified as Anwar Begum, wife of Mohammad Rafiq, originally from Reasi and presently residing in Nishat—was allegedly attacked by two intoxicated men.

Two of the four accused who have been arrested were identified as Suhail Bashir Bha and Adil Ahmad Dar from Nishat.

Police said the woman sustained serious injuries in the assault and was shifted to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Officials said more details will be shared as the probe progresses.
