MP Ruhullah Mehdi Seeks Evacuation of Kashmiri Students After Israeli Strike on Tehran Hostel

Srinagar, Jun 15: Member Parliament from Srinagar Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Sunday expressed concern over the safety of Kashmiri students in Iran after an Israeli airstrike struck the Hujat Dost Ali hostel in Tehran, Iran, injuring several students residing in the hostel.

Taking to social media, Mehdi expressed concern over the safety of the students and said he has written to India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, urging immediate measures for their safety.

An Israeli strike hit Hujat Dost Ali hostel in Tehran, housing many Kashmiri students. Some sustained minor injuries. I’ve written to EAM @DrSJaishankar urging their relocation within Iran or evacuation once the airspace opens, Mehdi wrote on his social media account facebook.

Earlier today, CM Omar in a post on X as per JKNS wrote, I’m in touch with @MEAIndia regarding the evolving situation in Iran, particularly with regard to the students from Kashmir in Tehran, Shiraz, Qom & other cities. They, in turn, are in close contact with the authorities in Iran.

A decision to evacuate, if necessary, will be taken based on the ground situation keeping the safety & security of these students as the primary consideration. We will keep everyone informed as the situation develops, it reads.

As a parent I assure all the concerned parents of my government’s close & continuous attention to this important developing situation, reads the post.

Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, said, “We have been receiving distress messages and calls from Kashmiri students in different parts of Iran, especially in cities impacted by the ongoing conflict. Students are anxious and fearful due to the rapidly deteriorating situation. The Association is in close coordination with the office of the External Affairs Minister and is actively preparing a detailed list of affected students to be submitted to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for urgent intervention and possible evacuation, in case the situation escalates further.
