Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections Baramulla, Abdullah urged all opposition parties to unite against the BJP and vote strategically to ensure its defeat.
“People’s Conference chairman Sajad Lone’s decision to withdraw from the polls will only benefit the BJP. Everyone knows who stands to gain from this. I appeal to other opposition parties not to stay away. This is a direct contest between the NC and the BJP. Not voting for NC means helping the BJP,” the Chief Minister said, as per news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Abdullah emphasized that unity among opposition forces, including the PDP and Congress, was essential to stop the BJP. “If the aim is to defeat the BJP, every party must play its role. Staying out of the contest only weakens the joint fight,” he added.
Addressing reports of differences within the INDIA bloc, the Chief Minister clarified that the alliance between the NC and Congress remains intact. “We initially wanted Congress to contest one of the seats to maximize our chances, but since they chose not to field a candidate, we had to nominate our own,” he said.
Reaffirming NC’s commitment to the alliance spirit, Omar Abdullah said the party’s ultimate goal is to ensure BJP’s defeat in all three seats. “Our mission is clear — the BJP must be stopped, and we will fight for that on every front,” he said.
