LG likely to have resolved SMVD Medical College admission issue: Dr Jitendra Singh

Kathua, Jan 4 : Union Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Earth Sciences Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday addressed a public darbar in Kathua, where he also spoke to reporters on a range of issues concerning the region.

Responding to a question about the admission-related controversy at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College, the minister said that the matter might have already been sorted out by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, as he heads the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Trust.

He said the Lieutenant Governor, being the chairman of the trust, is competent to address and resolve such issues, adding that clarity on the matter is expected.

Dr Jitendra Singh as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust also made remarks on water management, stating that strategies are being formulated to stop the flow of water from Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan. He said the government intends to utilize the surplus water within India.

“We will use the extra water for states like Haryana, Rajasthan or within Jammu and Kashmir itself, but we will not allow it to flow to Pakistan. Work in this direction is in progress,” he said.

The Union Minister further announced that North India’s largest Homeopathy College will be established in Kathua. He said the upcoming institution will strengthen medical education infrastructure in the region and create new opportunities for students.

The public darbar witnessed participation from locals who raised various civic and developmental issues, while officials concerned were directed to take note of the grievances. [KNT]
