Govt Constitutes Committees to Prevent Student Suicides in J&K

Srinagar, Jan 28:The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted District Level Monitoring Committees in all districts to strengthen mental health protection and prevent suicides among students.

According to an order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), the committees will be headed by the Deputy Commissioner of the concerned district. Other members will include the Chief Education Officer, Chief Medical Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, and a representative from civil society.
The committees have been tasked with monitoring students’ mental well-being, identifying those at risk, and ensuring timely intervention through coordination among education, health, and social welfare departments.

The initiative also aims to promote awareness about mental health issues in educational institutions.

Officials said the move comes in view of growing concerns over mental stress among students and is intended to create a safer and more supportive academic environment across Jammu and Kashmir.
