Jobs Must Be Created Within J&K to Protect People From Outside Onslaught: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, Jan 31:Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday emphasized the urgent need to create employment opportunities within Jammu and Kashmir, stating that unlike other states, he cannot ask the people of the Union Territory to migrate elsewhere in search of jobs.

Speaking on the issue, the Chief Minister said that recent incidents involving Kashmiris outside the Union Territory have compelled people to rethink working outside J&K. “We have seen what our people have faced in recent times, whether it was in Himachal Pradesh or the recent incident in Uttarakhand,” Omar Abdullah said.

He noted that such experiences have led to a shift in mindset among the people, with many now preferring to seek opportunities closer to home rather than outside the UT. “As a result, our people are increasingly looking inward instead of going outside,” he added.

Omar Abdullah stressed that protecting the dignity, safety, and well-being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir must remain a top priority. He said that building a strong and sustainable local employment ecosystem is essential to ensure long-term economic stability and security for residents.

The Chief Minister further said that the government is focused on strengthening local industries, expanding services, and enhancing skill development programmes so that employment generation within Jammu and Kashmir becomes viable, inclusive, and sustainable.
