Jammu, Feb 19: Legislators of the Indian National Congress on Thursday staged a protest outside the premises of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in Jammu, alleging harassment of Kashmiris in different parts of the country and demanding immediate intervention by authorities.
The protesting MLAs assembled outside the Assembly complex carrying long paper banners that called for an end to what they described as intimidation and targeting of Kashmiri students studying outside the Union Territory. Slogans were raised urging the government to ensure safety and dignity for students and professionals from Jammu and Kashmir.
During the protest, Congress legislators cited a recent incident at Rajasthan University, alleging that several Kashmiri students were assaulted by Bajrang Dal workers. They termed the incident “deeply disturbing” and said such developments create fear and insecurity among families who send their children outside J&K for higher education.
The MLAs demanded that both the Union Government and concerned state administrations take strict action against those involved in assaults and ensure that Kashmiri students are provided adequate protection. They also sought a formal statement from the J&K administration addressing the issue and outlining measures to prevent recurrence. [KNT]
