Rush at Petrol Pumps May Force Temporary Shutdown: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, Mar 26 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday urged the public not to rush to petrol pumps due to rumours, warning that panic buying could create unnecessary problems.

He said there is no shortage of fuel at present and appealed to people to remain calm and avoid forming long queues outside fuel stations.

The Chief Minister cautioned that if the rush at petrol pumps continues because of misinformation, the government may be forced to temporarily shut them down to bring the situation under control.

Omar Abdullah said the government is closely monitoring the situation and assured that fuel supplies remain adequate across the country.

Referring to a meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said discussions would be held on the situation in Iran and the surrounding region, and steps would be taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities if the situation prolongs.

He once again urged people not to panic and to rely only on official information.
