Probe Initiated into Death of Local Resident in April 1 Encounter

Srinagar, April 3,: The Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has ordered a magisterial inquiry into an encounter that took place in the Arhama area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, resulting in the death of a local resident, officials said.

According to an official communication issued by the Home Department, the inquiry pertains to the encounter that occurred on April 1, 2026, in which Raashid Ahmad Mughal, son of late Gull Zaman Mughal and a resident of Chuntwaliwar Lar, Ganderbal, was killed.

The directive has been addressed to the District Magistrate, Ganderbal, asking for a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the facts and sequence of events leading to the death, amid the need for clarity and accountability in the case.

Officials said the District Magistrate has been instructed to ensure that the magisterial probe is conducted in a fair and transparent manner, covering all aspects of the encounter.

“The issue has been examined, and accordingly, a thorough and impartial magisterial inquiry is to be conducted,” the communication states.

The Home Department has set a timeline of seven days for completion of the inquiry, after which the report is to be submitted to the government for further action.

The order was issued by Rauf Ahmad Lone, Under Secretary to the Government, and copies have been forwarded to senior officials including the Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, and other administrative authorities. [KNT]
