10 Indians Rescued, One Missing After Commercial Vessel Attacked Off Oman

New Delhi: India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday confirmed that 10 of the 11 Indian nationals aboard the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy, which came under attack off the coast of Oman, have been rescued. One Indian crew member remains missing, and search operations are continuing.

In an official statement, the MEA strongly condemned the attack on the commercial vessel. It said the Indian Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and is coordinating with Omani authorities involved in the ongoing search and rescue mission. The ministry also expressed gratitude to the Omani government for its support.

The MEA described the repeated attacks on commercial shipping in the region as “deeply worrisome” and called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions. It urged all parties to pursue a diplomatic solution to restore peace and stability in the region.

India also stressed that attacks on commercial ships and civilian infrastructure must stop and called for the restoration of safe and uninterrupted navigation through international waterways in accordance with international law.

The incident comes amid escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. According to reports, the United States launched strikes on Iran after an Iranian attack on a commercial vessel set a container ship on fire, forcing its crew to abandon it. Iran reportedly responded with attacks targeting Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman.

The Strait of Hormuz has become a key point of contention in efforts to reach a lasting diplomatic settlement between Iran and the United States. Following recent violence, Iran and Oman agreed to continue discussions on the strategic waterway at both the technical and political levels.
