Mirwaiz Pays Tributes to July 13 Martyrs, Condemns House Arrest and Restrictions

Srinagar, July 13: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on Monday paid glowing tributes to the July 13 martyrs, condemning his house arrest, restrictions around Jamia Masjid Srinagar and the blockade of the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib.

In a statement posted on X, the Mirwaiz said the martyrs, who laid down their lives 95 years ago, laid the foundation of the people’s struggle for justice, dignity and human rights in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that the struggle continues.

He described it as “painful and unfortunate” that people were being prevented from offering prayers and paying homage at the Martyrs’ Graveyard, alleging that all roads leading to Mazar-e-Shuhada had been sealed, restrictions imposed around Jamia Masjid, and that he had once again been placed under house arrest.

The Mirwaiz said that while graveyards could be sealed, roads blocked and people confined to their homes, the memory and sacrifices of the martyrs could never be erased.

Condemning the restrictions imposed on the public and on his movement, he said physical barriers may prevent people from reaching the martyrs’ graves, but they could never erase the martyrs’ legacy or the ideals for which they sacrificed their lives.

He concluded by praying that Allah grant all the martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir the highest place in Jannah, ending his message with, “Salam to the Martyrs of Kashmir.”
