News Desk | Srinagar, July 22: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday strongly condemned the militant attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district in which Head Constable Ashiq Hussain of the 3rd Battalion, Indian Reserve Police (IRP) lost his life in the line of duty.
In his condolence message, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed profound grief over the martyrdom of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain. He said the brave policeman made the supreme sacrifice for the nation in a cowardly militant attack in Anantnag. The LG extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty Allah grants the departed soul the highest place in Jannat and gives strength to the family to bear the irreparable loss.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condemned the attack, saying he was deeply saddened by the death of the police officer. He said such cowardly attacks are attempts to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir, but the security forces remain committed to defeating such threats. The Chief Minister expressed sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
According to officials, militants opened fire on a Special Operations Group (SOG) team in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag after the police received intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the locality.
Head Constable Ashiq Hussain sustained critical injuries in the attack and was immediately shifted to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The slain officer was a resident of Beerwah in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Following the attack, security forces launched a massive cordon-and-search operation in the area to trace the assailants.
