Ram Madhav, Smriti Irani Return to BJP’s New Team in Major Organisational Shake-Up

New Delhi, August 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced its new national office-bearers, with several prominent leaders, including Union Minister Piyush Goyal, former Union Minister Smriti Irani, RSS national executive member Ram Madhav and former Chief Ministers Biplab Kumar Deb and Tirath Singh Rawat, returning to key organisational positions.

The appointments were announced by BJP national president Nitin Nabin and will take effect immediately, according to a party press release.

Piyush Goyal has been appointed the party’s national treasurer, while Ram Madhav and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat have been named national vice presidents. Smriti Irani has been appointed a national general secretary.

The reshuffle comes months after Nitin Nabin took over as BJP president from JP Nadda.

Ram Madhav Returns as National Vice President

Ram Madhav, a former BJP national general secretary, has returned to a key organisational role after being appointed national vice president.

The BJP’s 13 national vice presidents include Tirath Singh Rawat, D Purandeswari, Varshaben Narendrabhai Doshi, Bharti Pravin Pawar, Manpreet Singh Badal, Lal Singh Arya, M Nagaraja and Madhuchandra Kar.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Baijayant Jay Panda, Rekha Verma and Tariq Mansoor have been retained as national vice presidents.

Five of the 13 national vice presidents are women.

Smriti Irani Gets Major Organisational Role

Smriti Irani has been appointed one of the BJP’s eight national general secretaries. The other general secretaries are Vinod Tawde, Sunil Bansal, former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia.

This is Irani’s first major organisational role since her defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi.

Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal have been retained, while B L Santhosh will continue as national general secretary (organisation).

Amit Malviya Missing From New List

A notable change in the new BJP team is the absence of Amit Malviya, who has been heading the party’s social media and IT cell.

Deepak Mhaskey has been appointed the BJP’s new social media convenor.

Former Congress spokesperson Rohan Gupta has also been appointed a national secretary, while Anil Antony has been retained in the same position.

Piyush Goyal Named National Treasurer

Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed the BJP’s national treasurer, with Rajesh Mangal named national joint treasurer.

The party has also made several appointments to its organisational and outreach wings. Sambit Patra has been appointed the North-East coordinator, while Tarun Chugh will serve as the central office in-charge.

Shivprakash and Saudan Singh have been appointed national joint general secretaries (organisation).

Nitin Nabin Welcomes New Team

Congratulating the newly appointed office-bearers, BJP president Nitin Nabin said the combination of experience and fresh energy would give new momentum to the party organisation.

He expressed confidence that the new team would work as dedicated party workers under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance and strengthen the BJP’s organisation while advancing its vision of a “Viksit Bharat” and nation-building.

The reshuffle is being seen as a significant organisational exercise under Nitin Nabin’s leadership, with the return of leaders such as Ram Madhav and Smriti Irani to prominent national positions being among the key highlights.
