Home Minister Amit Shah to visit DSP Humayun’s family

Srinagar, Apr 5: Union Home Minister Amit Shah who is scheduled to arrive in Kashmir on Monday evening on a two-day visit will chair a high-level security meeting here besides visiting the family of late Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Humayun Muzammil Bhat.

Sources said that Shah is scheduled to land at the Srinagar Technical Airport on Monday evening from where he would head directly to visit the family of DSP Humayun, who was killed in a counter-terror operation in south Kashmir two years ago.

“The Home Minister will meet the family of late DSP Humayun to express solidarity and pay his respect,” a senior government official said.

Humayun was honoured with the Kirti Chakra on Independence Day 2024 for extraordinary bravery.

After visiting Bhat’s family, Shah is scheduled to proceed to the Raj Bhawan, where he may hold a series of closed-door meetings.

“There is a possibility that the Home Minister might meet some people,” the official said. “So far there is no official confirmation of Amit Shah’s meetings with people.”

On Tuesday morning, Shah will chair a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar that will be attended by top officials from the J&K Police, Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and central intelligence agencies.

“The Home Minister will assess the prevailing security scenario in J&K, including ongoing counter-terror operations, infiltration attempts from across the border, and preparedness ahead of Amarnath Yatra,” official sources said.

They said the Home Minister’s visit comes “at a critical juncture when the security grid has intensified efforts to maintain peace and stability across J&K, particularly in light of increased activity along the Line of Control and International Border.”

Shah is expected to return to New Delhi on Tuesday afternoon following the conclusion of his engagements in Kashmir.

The Home Minister will have his night stay at Raj Bhawan while other officials will stay at other places.(Agencies)
