SRINAGAR: Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister on Friday said that individuals refusing to install electric meters would not be eligible to receive the government’s benefit of 200 units of free electricity for households, adding that political propaganda over the issue of meters is misleading the public.
Speaking to reporters in Budgam ahead of the by-elections, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on ordinary citizens. “We have pledged to provide 200 units of free electricity to every household, but this cannot be implemented without meters being installed,” he said.
He urged residents to make informed decisions rather than be swayed by those politicising the issue. “If you choose not to install a meter, that is your decision.
But when we begin supplying 200 units of free electricity and your home remains unmetered, you will not receive the benefit. In that case, hold accountable those who have played politics over this matter,” he added.
The Chief Minister criticised certain political parties, saying they “have nothing to offer the people except deceit and falsehoods,” while the government’s objective is to bring relief and comfort to every household.
