8 Killed, Several Injured in Powerful Blast Near Delhi’s Red Fort

New Delhi, November 10:A powerful explosion near the historic Red Fort in Delhi on Sunday evening killed at least eight people and left several others injured, officials confirmed. The blast occurred around 6:50 p.m. near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, a busy intersection in the heart of Old Delhi.

According to initial reports, the explosion took place inside a car waiting at a red light, triggering a massive fire that engulfed several nearby vehicles — including six cars and three auto-rickshaws. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as flames and thick smoke filled the area, with several people trapped inside burning vehicles.

Fire tenders, police, and forensic teams rushed to the site, and the area has since been completely sealed off. Emergency workers recovered charred bodies while the injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the explosion. A senior Delhi Police official said, “There is no crater at the site, so it is too early to confirm if it was a bomb blast or an accidental explosion.”

Security across Delhi — and other major cities including Mumbai — has been tightened, with high alert issued at sensitive locations and crowded public spaces.

Delhi BJP leader Rekha Gupta, who was near the site, said the blast was so intense that “cars were lifted off the ground” and “people were screaming for help.”

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and forensic experts have been called in to assist the probe.

Traffic movement around Chandni Chowk and the Red Fort area has been suspended, and authorities have urged citizens to avoid spreading unverified information on social media.
