Aga Ruhullah Questions ‘Targeted Demolitions’ in Lok Sabha

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Aga Ruhullah Mehdi on Friday raised the demolition of journalist Arfaz Daing’s house in the Lok Sabha, questioning what he described as growing discriminatory actions and urging the government to uphold legal procedures.

Speaking during the ongoing session, the Srinagar MP thanked Jammu resident Kuldeep Sharma for donating his land to Arfaz Daing, whose house, he said, had been “demolished illegally” without notice. He told the House that Sharma’s gesture proved that “no matter how many minds are poisoned, we are one”.

Ruhullah said the Muslim journalist’s home was demolished without following legal procedure, and asked whether there was now a “competition” between Uttar Pradesh CM and Jammu and Kashmir LG “over who will demolish more homes of Muslims”.

At this point, the Chair, Dilip Sakia, intervened and said the MP could not name the Chief Minister or the Lieutenant Governor inside the House.

Continuing his intervention, Ruhullah asked whether the country would “run with laws or with an ideology of Islamophobia imported from Israel”. The Chair again intervened and ordered that the term be expunged from the proceedings.
