Farooq Abdullah’s ‘Chaos’ Remark Targeted Mehbooba Mufti: NC

SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq on Monday said party president Farooq Abdullah’s recent remarks on attempts to create chaos were aimed at People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti and her daughter.

Speaking on the issue, Sadiq said the comments were in response to the PDP leaders’ claims, with Mufti’s daughter stating she was under house arrest while her mother was reportedly moving freely.

He added that several issues requiring attention from the Centre had not been addressed.

Sadiq also questioned the handling of law and order, saying it was not fully under the control of the elected government, and urged that students be allowed to protest peacefully.

He raised concerns over the selective permission of protests, noting that demonstrations outside the Chief Minister’s residence were allowed while others were not, calling such actions “undermining democratic norms.”

He appealed for an environment that would allow the government to function without unnecessary confrontation. (KNS)
