Body of missing youth recovered from Kangan power canal

Kangan, Feb 1:  The body of a youth who had gone missing after falling into a power canal in the Theon Kangan area of Ganderbal district yesterday was recovered on Sunday, officials said.

 Mumtaz Ahmed Tedwa and Tanveer Ahmed Tedwa, both residents of Theon Kangan, had fallen into the canal on Saturday late evening. Mumtaz Ahmed Tedwa was rescued from the canal the same evening and shifted to the Trauma Hospital Kangan for treatment.

According to officials, Tanveer Ahmed Tedwa had entered the canal in an attempt to rescue his brother but was swept away by the strong current and went missing.

Police and State Disaster Response Force teams launched a search operation immediately after the incident. After sustained efforts, the body of Tanveer Ahmed Tedwa was recovered from the canal on Sunday, bringing the search operation to an end.

Doctors at the Trauma Hospital Kangan said Mumtaz Ahmed Tedwa had suffered a cardiac episode, following which he lost consciousness and fell into the canal. His condition is reported to be stable, and he was later referred to SKIMS Soura for further medical management.

Officials said the rescue and recovery operation was supervised on the ground by senior police officers, including the SDPO Kangan and SHO Kangan. [KNT]
