Iran Says It Will Halt Strikes on Neighbors Unless Attacked

Tehran, March 7:Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Saturday that Iran will suspend attacks on neighboring countries unless those countries launch strikes against Iran, as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.

Speaking in a televised address, Pezeshkian declared that Iran would never surrender to Israel or the United States, despite the ongoing conflict in the region.

“Our enemies must take their wish for the unconditional surrender of the Iranian people to their graves,” Pezeshkian said during the speech broadcast on Iranian state television.

The statement comes as the regional conflict enters its second week, following airstrikes launched by Israel and the United States on February 28, which reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and triggered widespread tensions across the Middle East.

In response to the attacks, Iran carried out missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and U.S. interests in several regional countries, particularly in the Gulf.

Pezeshkian, who is currently part of a three-member interim leadership council governing Iran after Khamenei’s death, said Tehran regrets attacks that affected neighboring states.

“I must apologize on my own behalf and on behalf of Iran to the neighboring countries that were attacked by Iran,” he said.

He added that the interim leadership council had decided that no further attacks would be carried out against neighboring countries unless those countries initiate strikes against Iran.

“The council agreed that no missiles will be fired at neighboring states unless attacks against Iran originate from those countries,” Pezeshkian said.

The development comes amid growing concerns that the ongoing conflict could expand into a wider regional war involving several Middle Eastern countries.
