Thousands Attend Jumat-ul-Vida Prayers at Jamia Masjid After 7 Years

Srinagar, Mar 20 : Jumat-ul-Vida prayers were offered at the historic Jamia Masjid on Friday after a gap of seven years, drawing thousands of worshippers to the grand mosque in the old city.

The congregation witnessed a massive turnout as devotees from different parts of Srinagar and adjoining areas gathered to participate in the last Friday prayers of the holy month of Ramadan.

Authorities had put in place elaborate security arrangements in and around the area to ensure the smooth conduct of prayers. Security personnel were deployed at multiple points, while movement was regulated to manage the large gathering.

Despite the tight security, the atmosphere remained peaceful, with devotees offering prayers in a calm and orderly manner. Many described the moment as significant.

Senior officials from the security grid told news agency JKNS that the prayers were allowed and are being conducted without any disruption. “Everything is going on smoothly and peacefully,” they said.

The reopening of the mosque for this important congregational prayer was seen as a notable development.

Jumat-ul-Vida holds special religious significance as it is the last Friday of Ramadan, and large congregations are traditionally witnessed at major mosques across the Valley. Meanwhile Mirwaiz Umar Farooq claimed that he was confined to his home.
