Washington: US President has announced that the US Navy will begin blocking all ships entering or leaving the following the failure of talks with Iran.
The statement came after US-Iran negotiations concluded in on Sunday without reaching an agreement, putting a fragile two-week ceasefire at risk.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Iran of failing to honor its promise to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. He said this had caused “anxiety, disruption, and pain” globally. He also claimed that Iran had threatened to place naval mines in the water, despite much of its naval capability being destroyed.
“Effective immediately, the United States Navy will begin the process of blockading any and all ships trying to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said, adding that vessels paying tolls to Iran would also be intercepted in international waters.
Trump noted that while the Islamabad talks were generally positive and several issues were agreed upon, the key dispute over Iran’s nuclear program remains unresolved. He reiterated his opposition to Iran charging ships for passage through the strategic waterway.
The US President further said he had been briefed on the talks by Vice President , special envoy , and adviser .
