The Delhi High Court has allowed jailed Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid to visit his ailing father at AIIMS New Delhi under strict police escort.
A bench of Justice Prathiba M Singh and Justice Madhu Jain modified its earlier order and permitted Rashid to meet his father every day from 8 AM to 8 PM until May 10. However, instead of being released on interim bail, he will be taken from jail to the hospital daily under police supervision.
Earlier, on April 28, the court had granted Rashid one-week interim bail, restricting him to Srinagar. After his father was shifted to AIIMS in New Delhi, Rashid requested a change in the order.
The court declined to verify a rented local address provided by his lawyer and instead allowed controlled visits from custody. It also directed that at least two plainclothes police officers accompany him and remain outside the hospital ward.
All previous conditions remain in place, and Rashid will continue to stay in jail after the permitted hours.
Rashid, elected from Baramulla in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, has been in Tihar Jail since 2019 after being arrested by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a 2017 terror-funding case. His regular bail was rejected in March 2025, and his interim bail plea was also earlier denied by the trial court.
